I got connected with my college friend after years through social media and was thinking how lucky this man is.
His happy photograph with his wife and kids on a holiday spot gave me an impression of super happy and successful life. For a second, I was envious. After all, we both started from the same MBA college.
We connected, and I realized that what we gaze as love, effortless bliss, compatibility, happiness, high ambition and strong and high career graphs in social media photographs many times turns out to be opposite of that.
He was going through adjustment issues in his relationship and was under strong office pressure of achieving targets. This had caused heavy stress in him, and he was on drugs for that. In cold winter evening also, he was sweating.
Mostly in today’s life we need to deal with heavy pressures, or maybe we give extra attention too few things which, we feel, are very important, as per today’s life – style. This results in HIGH STRESS. Ways to relieve stress must be included in our education as a self-management.
Stress is a result of Self – obsession, comparison, anxiety and insecurity. This makes us try to handle those results which are not in our hands. Whenever we enter the zone which is not in our hands, then anger takes place.
As much as we start accepting ourselves and our life as they are, start loving ourselves, stand supporting ourselves and do all those small, big things which fulfils us then automatically this fulfilment get us aligned to ourselves, and we feel mental freedom and happiness.
There are ways to relieve stress, anxiety, anger through holistic style of living, which heals us both mentally and physically. These are being practised from ages and considered to be the best in stress management.
Sunlight
Sunlight increases a hormone called Serotonin and reduces excess melatonin.
This helps the person to calm down naturally. This is extremely good for the good focus also. This is called Light therapy and is used worldwide to treat depression.
In Hinduism, people worshipping early morning Sun is with a lot of scientific reason. Every day, 5 to 15 minutes of Sunlight can do wonders for mental and physical health.
Journaling
When we pour all our different emotions and feelings on a piece of paper through our handwriting, then mind becomes empty and relaxed. This is just like as if we are talking our heart out with our dear friend.
This is a super powerful tool to recognize the negative thought pattern which is a root cause of our every problem. It encourages positive self-talk. This identification shows us the right path easily and is a wonderful Self -help tool.
Every day 5 to 10 minutes journaling about all your thoughts and emotions can do wonders by giving us deep mental relaxation.
Sleep
Sleep affects our mental health very closely and can be a strong reason for stress. Whole body repairs during sleep, so poor sleep needs to be addressed as soon as possible. Fixed pattern helps in getting good 7-8 hours’ sleep.
Going to bed at fixed time and switching off all the lights trains our mind to sleep at fixed time. Keep all gadgets and TV outside your bedroom. Bedroom needs to away from unnecessary noise and light. Use soft colours for curtains and bedsheets which gives soothing effect to our mind.
Dinner at least needs to be done two hours before going to the bed. You can also try doing pranayama and calming music to get sound sleep. This sleep discipline not only calms us down, but also sharpens our attention and memory.
Breathing
Deep breathing is an excellent tool to calm us down. At the time of stress if we take help of deep breathing then this will help us to handle ourselves in much better manner.
This not only calms us down but increases our energy levels. When we do deep breathing, then the brain gets a signal to calm down, and It reduces the adrenaline rush.
Nature
Stress is a sign of disconnection and fear. Being in nature reconnects us and is like a tonic for us.
Nature heals us as we are a part of it. It calms us down and we feel relaxed.
In Japan, Forest therapy is used to heal people. Hugging trees, touching soil, walking bare foot, sitting near water bodies heals us deeply.
This balances and repairs our Root chakra, and we feel safe, relaxed, and calm in ourselves.
Exercise
Exercise reduces stress hormones like adrenaline and cortisol and releases Endorphins.
Endorphins naturally improves our mood and give us happy feeling.
Exercise improves our sleep pattern as well and after exercise mind can rest in much better manner.
Meditation
Meditation is an excellent way to connect with our core. All the stress is about outside world. World which is other than us.
Meditation helps us to get centered in ourselves and separate us from outside. The moment this separation happens all stress is also dropped with it.
There are multiple benefits and ways to do meditation. When body gets tired mind settles easily.
When body is not tired then if we sit for the meditation then many times all the energy goes to the brain, and it wanders more.
So, after exercise or dance or any physical activity when we immediately sit for the meditation, then this enhances the quality of meditation by taking us in our deeper self effortlessly.
Cold Showers
It is believed that taking very cold showers for 5 minutes helps to relieve stress.
This is called water therapy or Hydrotherapy. This increases presence of mind, alertness and releases high-energy levels.
At the time of stress, this can be used as a self-help tool. This is like a softer version of electroshock therapy.
This increases happiness hormones called Endorphins.
Spiritual Connection
Spirituality is a connection with Self, the core, the essence and feeling oneness with the whole existence.
This vastness in Self changes our vision to see and feel about outside people and situations. This is like watering our roots.
When the roots are strong, then there is no need to fear the wind.
If you feel there is lack of clarity about this path, then find a spiritual coach who can guide you on this path and helps you find yourself again.
Investing on this Self development path is the best and most important investment we can do on ourselves and our life.
This will train us how to be happy with reason and without any reason.
From ages, holistic living is known for mind, body and soul alignment.
These practices are known as the quickest and safest way to relieve stress.
This is not only the theory of East but in West also people are investing their time, money and energy on this.
Outside is not in our hands but we ourselves have full power on us and this power is in ‘NOW’. Live, laugh and love.
