Makar Sankranti is on 15th Jan’ 2023.
Till few years back it used to be on 14th Jan but from last few years there is a change and right day to celebrate Makar Sankranti is on 15th Jan.
From years Hinduism has been worshipping nature in different forms. So much so, that Krishna said Prakriti hi Parmatma hai (Nature is God) So anything which goes against nature is rejected in Hinduism. We flow as per the flow of nature.
This day we worship SUN God. It is a life force. If it is not there then Earth is frozen barren land.
So, this day is to offer gratitude to Sun for giving life to us. We express it by early morning bath, Surya Namaskar and donating mixed rice and lentils to the needy.
Coming in contact with Sun gives high mental discipline and balance, which is important to live balanced, joyful and wonderful life on this planet.
We are nurtured in Sun. We recieve D3, Calcium and Serotonin hormone and many other favourable things are released by Sun. This all is very important so our ancient sages made festivals as a reminder for us.
This is the winter time and in North India we see different stunning colour flowers in the gardens. Nature has poured beautiful shades in the petal of each flower. Are we the one who are putting colours in each petal?
No, we just put one seed and let it have air, water and Sunlight and see from the soil and mud such beautiful, colourful and fragrant flowers come out. Nature is magical.
Similarly, in life we are not the ones who can give results for our actions but we can surely put the seed of our high intention and action with surrenderfulness in the soil of time in this Universe and see what comes out of it and we see that wonderful results with enchanting fragrance of joy and peace comes on their own. Nature is the best teacher.
I still remember in my childhood my mom used to take me to my Nani’s house on almost every Saturday. There was a beautiful huge garden near my Nani’s house and as I was the only child till 10 years and to avoid me getting bored alone in the house she used to take me to the nearby garden so I can play on swings and be happy in flowers there.
Trust me it has been several years that I have not seen that garden again and nani also passed away 20 years back but still I remember the joy which I felt playing on the grass, touching petals, asking about every detail of flowers, playing under the trees and feeling joyful in mixed fragrance of flowers, grass and trees. I felt deep connection and immense joy in nature with myself.
At that time,I had a bad habit of plucking flowers and everytime my nani used to scold me and explain me that see how beautiful they look on the plants and why you spoil them by plucking.
This was the time when I realized that most beautiful flower also gets spoilt the moment we pluck it from its branch and similarly, we also get dark when we are disconnected with our highest connection. All our light disappear. As much as we are connected with our highest Self that much our light increase.
Now also when I feel low then the best medicine for me to is to go in the nature and being with myself. Nature speaks to us if we are ready to listen. I get right guidance and clarity always. I will request all of you to try this. It always helps.
May we all get brightness in our beings and life by the blessing of SUN God.
Wish you all very Happy Makar Sankranti in advance.
Gratitude
