Yes, we see increased crime against women in present times but these existed earlier as well. The difference was that crime against them were not even considered to be crimes, hence were not bothered to be recorded. Today, there exist records of crimes so we feel like more crime is prevalent.
In my opinion I feel we got much more respect, help, opportunity and freedom then what our mothers, grandmothers and great grandmothers got.
The roots of my maternal side is from Kabul and Peshawar. I have heard the stories from my maternal grandmother. My paternal grandmother was from Punjab and even she had told me her adjustment stories. They had no opinions.
I feel so priviledged today. I am not saying that there exist no problems or everywhere everything is all figured out, but atleast we are in a better place than maybe our mothers and grandmothers were.
Today, husbands and families are much more understanding than 100 years back.
Women education, women welfare, women health, women rights have gained so much more importance, as awareness began to spread.
Today, people are so happy with one girl child. Earlier for the birth of a son, women had to go through all inhuman practices and conditions that were supposedly to help. Not only was it was the society, but women themselves felt this is way, probably because they didn’t know better. It was all they heard growing up, it was all they were exposed to.
Times have changed. Maybe not fully, maybe not even as much that we would be able to call them perfect, but it has changed to a great extent. Today girls are celebrated. Well, I certainly celebrate my daughter.
